The Master’s Programme in Mathematics at Uppsala University lets you deepen your knowledge of mathematics while enjoying freedom to choose from a wide range of courses, both within and outside your track. You select a track at the start of the programme. In the Theoretical Mathematics track, you explore mathematics as an abstract and logically structured science, independent of its applications. You study the fundamental structures and sharpen your ability to think analytically and creatively. The track provides a solid theoretical foundation for doctoral studies and for analytically demanding roles in academia, IT, government, or the financial sector. The Applied Mathematics and Statistics track focuses on describing and analysing complex systems, from biological and technical to economic and societal contexts. You will learn to formulate models, analyse data, and apply dynamical systems and statistical methods to draw conclusions and make decisions. You may also specialise in computational science, data analysis, and machine learning, areas of growing importance in both research and industry. In the Financial Mathematics track, you study how advanced mathematical models are used to manage financial risks, optimise investments, and price financial products. This area combines mathematics, statistics, economic theory, and computer science, preparing you for a career in the financial sector or for further doctoral studies.
