Bachelor's Programme in Biomedicine

As a graduate in biomedicine, you will analyse and solve medical problems using the latest knowledge in chemistry and molecular biology. You will get a broad knowledge of the biology and pathology of the human body and an understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying major global diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, infections and neurological diseases. The programme runs in an active research environment, closely linked to the front-line biomedical research at Karolinska Institutet. Since biomedicine is a discipline built around international collaboration, you are encouraged to study part of the programme at one of our international partner universities. The curriculum includes courses in general natural sciences, alongside more medically oriented courses. As a student, you are trained in laboratory practices and scientific methods and introduced to basic and translational research. Teaching is conducted across several departments at Karolinska Institutet. In the final semester, you will carry out a degree project, allowing you to explore a subject area of your choice within biomedicine. The project is carried out at an academic institution or a pharmaceutical company, in Sweden or abroad.
