Master Programme in Mathematics

The programme has two specialisations: mathematics and numerical analysis. You deepen your knowledge in various areas of theoretical mathematics or in current topics within numerical analysis and computational science with applications in natural sciences, engineering, medicine, and finance. There is great emphasis on problem analysis and problem solving. The programme has a strong research connection. All your teachers are active researchers. As a student, you will gain close insight into our research areas. In pure mathematics, we conduct research on differential equations, complex and harmonic analysis, operator theory, differential geometry, group theory, representation theory, and optimization. Applications include mathematical physics, mathematical description and modelling of wave phenomena, cryptography, quantum computing, signal processing and data analysis, imaging techniques, and more. In numerical analysis and computational science, our research areas include the design and analysis of numerical methods to develop new algorithms for simulations, high-performance computing, iterative solvers for coupled problems, model reduction, uncertainty quantification, and scientific machine learning – with applications in, for example, computational physics, climate modelling, aircraft design, signal processing, and technical simulations.
